Data Analyst/Scientist

Cogniva Data Analysts/Scientists play a pivotal role in planning, executing, and delivering automatic classification projects based on machine learning (ML) and AI solutions. They are responsible for integrating metadata schemas, organizational business flows and processes into ML-based automatic classification solutions. The bulk of the work will be in ML modelling, problem analysis, data exploration and preparation, data collection and integration, and automatic classification (primarily focused on text). 

It is essential for a Data Analyst/Scientist to work autonomously and represent the expertise and value proposition that clients have come to expect from Cogniva. The Data Analyst/Scientist position directly reports to the COO. 

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal clients to identify areas where ML-based automation can improve information governance practices.
  • Perform information modelling, data collection, curation, and ML algorithm selection in support of ML-based automatic classification projects.
  • Develop logical data models, metadata schemas for automatic classification.
  • Assess project requirements using various feedback techniques, including interviews, document analyses, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions and use cases. 
  • Critically evaluate information, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general framework, and distinguish user requests from organizational needs.
  • Map organizational business flows and processes to develop automated solutions for managing information.
  • Liaise between internal/external customers, technology teams, and support teams.
  • Perform cost/benefit analysis of implementing new AI/ML functionalities to enhance Cogniva’s product portfolio.
  • Provide advice in developing and integrating business models to automate information governance.
  • Provide advice in defining new requirements and opportunities for enhancing the use of ML algorithms in C3 solutions; identify and help establish preliminary costs of potential options.
  • Serve as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external) and the software development team.
  • Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze trade-offs between usability and performance needs. 
  • Collaborate with MLOps, data engineers, and IT to evaluate and implement deployment options.
  • Prepare presentations, attend meetings and conduct any other associated tasks as periodically identified by the company’s senior executive.
  • Assist Cogniva’s management team in preparing responses to bids and proposals.

Requirements:

  • Experience in applying ML and data science techniques for automatic classification.
  • Experience in the collection and curation of unstructured data for ML projects.
  • Ability to work independently with users and under direction of project managers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of the Government of Canada rules, tools and resources for Information Management. This includes all policy frameworks, directives and standards.
  • Understanding of global regulatory Information Management initiatives (e.g., GDPR).
  • University/College education in a related field or a combination of education and experience.

Preferences:

  • Prior experience implementing automatic classification of information into a company’s Information Architecture would be considered a strong asset.
  • Strong analytical and product management skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) would be considered an asset.
  • Prior experience working with Federal Government.
